He Just Can’t Help Himself

You’ll never read about this in the MSM, of course. While they were quick to jump on instances where George Bush was proved wrong by subsequent events (he rarely flat-out lied) they are covering up when Obama lies.

From Jonas Goldberg at Powerline:

In his press conference Wednesday night, President Obama offered a nice little sermonette on “shortcuts.” Asked about his decision to release the “torture memos” and ban waterboarding, Obama said: “I was struck by an article that I was reading the other day talking about the fact that the British during World War II, when London was being bombed to smithereens, had 200 or so detainees. And Churchill said, ‘We don’t torture,’ when … all of the British people were being subjected to unimaginable risk and threat. … Churchill understood, you start taking shortcuts, over time, that corrodes what’s best in a people. It corrodes the character of a country.” It’s a nice, honorable statement. But there’s not much evidence it’s true.

Here’s Goldberg’s full article, full of citations. And here’s another corroborating historian, Richard Langworth.

I am not disappointed in Barry. I expect him to lie. My disappointment is with the media, which ignores this folly.

American Voters Would Rather Wet Terrorists Noses Than Suffer More Attacks! Bastards!

Powerline, quoting Rasumussun, says Obmama’s “Apology Tour” has failed:

  • 58 percent of voters say the Obama administration’s recent release of DOJ memos “endangers the national security of the United States.” Fewer than half as many 28 percent, think it “helps America’s image abroad.”
  • 70 percent also say America’s legal system either does a good job of weighing security against individual rights, or puts too much emphasis on individual rights at the expense of security. Only 21 percent say the legal system is “too concerned about protecting national security.”
  • Only 28 percent want the Obama administration to investigate how the Bush administration treated terrorists. 58 percent want no such investigations.
  • Obama’s decision to close Guantanamo Bay is now disapproved of by a 46-36 margin, with support for Obama’s action declining.

Clearly, noted White House Spokesman Barney Fife, it is time to pursue prohibiting voters from thinking, since they have clearly started doing it on their own.

Let us not forget Sunday, the two-year anniversary of Harry Reid declaring that our American Soldiers had “lost” the Iraq War…

How in the world did an Anti-American like this (ie wrong so much so often) ever end up running the US Senate?

Joke, Just A Joke

From my inbox this morning:

The Department Of Defense briefed the president this morning. They told Pres. OBAMA that 2 Brazilian soldiers were killed in Iraq. To everyone’s surprise, all the color drained from Obama’s face.

Then he collapsed onto his desk, head in his hands, visibly shaken, almost in tears.

Finally, he composed himself and asked, ‘Just how many is a brazilian?’

This is especially poignant since he obviously has no understanding of billion or trillion either.

Kill Shots Free Captain

Let’s hear it for the Navy SEALS: It was a great Easter Sunday made all the better by the dusting of the pirates in the surgical strike by the Navy SEALS (three simultaneous kill shots of guys bobbing up an down with the waves in a little boat, wow); killing three capturing one and the hostage unharmed. What an outcome. And credit to the Obama Administration for letting the Navy SEALS do their job; they have been training for these incidents for some time. (Coverage from Reuters; New York Times; Wall Street Journal; and a great article on how the Seals did it from the Washington Post)

The administration finally gave the critical order to use deadly force if necessary to save the life of the Captain. Apparently the administration initially rejected (or perhaps failed to respond) to the Defense Department’s request for authority to use force against the pirates. It seems like a pretty easy call to authorize the use of force if the Captain’s life is in danger, but whatever – at least they eventually did it. Our guys on the sea made the call and we got a perfect outcome.

Also hats off to the Captain, a class act, who gave himself as a hostage to save the crew and deflected all attention from himself to the Navy SEALS who carried out the mission.

This is an interesting back story on the rescue by special ops military veteran Jeff Emanuel:

After four days of floating at sea on a raft shared with four Somali gunmen, Richard Phillips took matters into his own hands for a second time. With the small inflatable lifeboat in which he was being held captive being towed by the American missile destroyer USS Bainbridge, and Navy Special Warfare (NSWC) snipers on the fantail in position to take their shots at his captors as soon as the command was given, the captive captain of the M.V. Maersk-Alabama took his second leap in three days into the shark-infested waters of the Indian Ocean. This diversion gave the Navy Special Warfare operators all the opening they needed. Snipers immediately took down the three Somali pirates still on board the life raft, SEAL operators hustled down the tow line connecting the two craft to confirm the kills, and a Navy RIB plucked Phillips from the water and sped him to safety aboard the Bainbridge, thus ending the four-day-and-counting hostage situation. Phillips’ first leap into the warm, dark water of the Indian Ocean hadn’t worked out as well. With the Bainbridge in range and a rescue by his country’s Navy possible, Phillips threw himself off of his lifeboat prison, enabling Navy shooters onboard the destroyer a clear shot at his captors — and none was taken. The guidance from National Command Authority — the president of the United States, Barack Obama — had been clear: a peaceful solution was the only acceptable outcome to this standoff unless the hostage’s life was in clear, extreme danger. The next day, a small Navy boat approaching the floating raft was fired on by the Somali pirates — and again no fire was returned and no pirates killed. This was again due to the cautious stance assumed by Navy personnel thanks to the combination of a lack of clear guidance from Washington and a mandate from the commander in chief’s staff not to act until Obama, a man with no background of dealing with such issues and no track record of decisiveness, decided that any outcome other than a “peaceful solution” would be acceptable.

Steps to take:

  • Arm the crews with weapons so they can defeat pirates attempting to board ships;
  • Arm the ships with defenses to make it difficult for pirates to board;
  • Declare pirates to be terrorists and make it illegal to pay ransom to them;
  • and make it clear the pirates will get no ransom and likely die if they capture US flagged ships or hostages.
  • Also destroy the pirate bases.

MSM's Gotta Be Mad

CNBC has been a consistent manipulator of the news in order to portray President Obama as a messianic figure. And they’ve been feeling pretty good about their work.

MSM’s Gotta Be Mad

So MSNBC decided to put a poll up on their website in order to validate that us sheep are still following along. We aren’t.

More than two million votes have been cast, and 45% give Obama an F while 15% give him a D. I imagine the D’s are from people who also blame congress.

More Arctic Ice Than Last Year, Again

For  a few years there, I was worried. Hollywood thespians and media leaders were exhausting immense volumes of hot air warning us about our imminent fate, perishing on a fiery altar of global warming - unless we kicked out George Bush and elected a Democrat. I was concerned they might change the climate.

Last week, the latest data was announced… and arctic ice has grown over last year… second year in a row.

The University of Colorado, not one to let facts stand in the way of politics, sounded the alarm: ice levels are once again below the 1979 to 2000 average.

The Americans who bought into this silly alarmism might be just entertaining… if their remedies didn’t carry such a high and resource-wasteful cost.

Big Tobacco? What About Big Government

Great letter from Don Boudreaux posted over at Cafe Hyak:

To the New York Times Editor:

Are you capable of writing “tobacco” without prefacing it with the word “big”? Similarly, can you write “oil” without the same ominous preface?

These industries indeed are big, but each is a dwarf compared to Uncle Sam.

So why do you not routinely describe government as “big government”?

Great comments on the post, too…

The Folly of Fascism

Fascism seems to be where America is headed, with government propping up bankrupt businesses by purchasing ownership in them.

Today’s Washington Times featured this article by professor Peter Leeson offering why society would benefit if those bailout beneficiaries were instead allowed to fail.
